Hydroxyethyl cellulose is a hydrophilic polymer that increases tear viscosity, enhancing ocular surface lubrication and retention time of tears. Glycerin acts as a humectant, drawing water into the corneal epithelium and maintaining moisture. Together, they form a protective film on the eye surface, reducing friction, minimizing irritation, and promoting epithelial healing.

• Distribution: Localized primarily to the tear film and ocular surface
• Metabolism: Not systemically metabolized
• Excretion: Eliminated via natural tear drainage
• Onset: Immediate symptomatic relief upon instillation
• Duration: Effects last several hours depending on tear film stability and severity of dryness

• Pregnancy: Considered Category C (no controlled human studies); topical ocular use has negligible systemic absorption, making risk minimal
• Breastfeeding: Safe for use during lactation; minimal systemic absorption implies negligible exposure to the infant
• Caution: As with all ocular products, consult a healthcare provider if used frequently
