Approved Indications

  • Erectile Dysfunction (ED): Management of psychogenic and vasculogenic erectile dysfunction in men.
  • Orthostatic Hypotension: Sometimes prescribed to prevent abnormally low blood pressure in certain patients.

Clinically Accepted Off-Label Uses

  • Female Sexual Arousal Disorder: Studied for improving libido and arousal in women.
  • Obesity & Weight Management: Investigated for fat metabolism and as an adjunct in weight reduction.
  • Raynaud’s Syndrome: May improve peripheral circulation and reduce vasospasm.

Dosage & Administration
  • Adults (ED): 5.4 mg to 10.8 mg daily in divided doses, usually before meals. Dose may be titrated as advised by physician.
  • Orthostatic Hypotension: 5.4 mg three times daily.
  • Maximum Daily Dose: Not more than 30 mg.
  • Elderly/Renal Impairment: Begin with lowest possible dose; monitor closely.
  • Pediatric Use: Not recommended.

Mechanism of Action (MOA)

Yohimbine is an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor antagonist. By blocking presynaptic alpha-2 receptors, it increases norepinephrine release, enhances sympathetic activity, and improves penile blood flow. This mechanism supports erection and increased libido.

Pregnancy & Lactation
  • Pregnancy: Contraindicated; safety not established.
  • Lactation: Avoid; insufficient data on excretion in breast milk.

  • Protect from light and moisture.
