HYLO-DUAL

 0.05%+2% Ophthalmic Solution
ZAS Corporation

10 ml drop: ৳ 1,488.00

Indications
  • Treatment of dry eye syndrome, including mild to moderate cases.
  • Relief of ocular surface irritation and discomfort caused by environmental factors such as wind, pollution, or air conditioning.
  • Supportive therapy for postoperative ocular surface healing (e.g., after cataract surgery or refractive procedures).
  • Management of symptoms associated with contact lens-related dryness.
  • Adjunctive treatment for ocular surface inflammation and allergic conjunctivitis.
Dosage & Administration
  • Route: Topical ophthalmic administration (eye drops).
  • Adults and Children: Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 3 to 6 times daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Severe Cases/Postoperative Use: Frequency may be increased up to every 1-2 hours, depending on severity.
  • Special Populations: No dose adjustment is necessary for elderly or patients with hepatic or renal impairment due to minimal systemic absorption.
  • Contact Lens Users: Remove lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinsertion unless the product is labeled as compatible.
Mechanism of Action (MOA)

Sodium hyaluronate acts as a hydrophilic polymer with high water retention capacity, forming a viscoelastic protective film on the ocular surface, thereby enhancing lubrication and moisture retention. Ectoine, a natural osmolyte, stabilizes cell membranes and proteins against osmotic stress and environmental damage by protecting corneal and conjunctival epithelial cells from dehydration and inflammation. The combination synergistically restores tear film stability, protects the ocular surface from oxidative stress, and promotes epithelial healing, effectively alleviating symptoms of dry eye and ocular irritation.

Pharmacokinetics
  • Absorption: Negligible systemic absorption after topical ocular application.
  • Distribution: Confined to the ocular surface and tear film.
  • Metabolism: Sodium hyaluronate is enzymatically degraded by hyaluronidases locally; ectoine remains stable and is not metabolized.
  • Half-life: Prolonged retention on the ocular surface due to mucoadhesive properties.
  • Excretion: Removed from the ocular surface through natural tear drainage mechanisms; no systemic excretion.
Pregnancy Category & Lactation
  • Pregnancy: No formal FDA pregnancy category; topical use with minimal systemic absorption suggests low risk. Use only if clearly indicated.
  • Lactation: Limited data; due to minimal systemic exposure, use is considered low risk during breastfeeding but should be used cautiously.
Therapeutic Class
  • Primary Class: Ophthalmic lubricant/artificial tear.
  • Subclass: Combination viscoelastic agent and osmoprotective compound.
Contraindications
  • Known hypersensitivity to sodium hyaluronate, ectoine, or any formulation excipients.
  • Presence of active ocular infection unless under appropriate treatment.
  • Severe ocular surface damage requiring other specific treatments.
Warnings & Precautions
  • Maintain sterility; avoid contact of the dropper tip with any surfaces.
  • Discontinue use and seek medical attention if signs of ocular infection or severe irritation develop.
  • Use with caution in patients with known allergies to the components.
  • Contact lens wearers should remove lenses before application unless product compatibility is confirmed.
Side Effects
  • Common: Mild, transient stinging or burning sensation on instillation; temporary blurred vision.
  • Less common: Mild eye redness or itching.
  • Rare: Allergic reactions such as swelling or rash.
Drug Interactions
  • No significant drug interactions known due to localized action and minimal systemic absorption.
  • When coadministered with other ophthalmic products, wait at least 5 minutes between applications to prevent dilution.
Recent Updates or Guidelines
  • Recent guidelines highlight the benefit of combining sodium hyaluronate with osmoprotective agents like ectoine for enhanced ocular surface protection and dry eye symptom relief.
  • Increasing preference for preservative-free formulations to reduce ocular surface toxicity in chronic users.
  • Growing clinical evidence supports ectoine’s role in protecting against environmental and inflammatory ocular damage.
Storage Conditions
  • Store at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
  • Protect from freezing and excessive heat.
  • Keep container tightly closed and shielded from direct light.
  • Follow manufacturer instructions regarding shelf life after opening.
  • Maintain hygiene during use to prevent contamination.
