  • Off-label/Clinically Accepted Uses: Temporary relief of minor oral discomfort and mouth ulcers.
Dosage & Administration
  • Formulation: Typically used as a mouthwash or oral rinse.
  • Adults and Children (>12 years): Rinse with 10–20 mL for 30 seconds to 1 minute twice daily after brushing.
  • Do not swallow; expectorate after use.
  • Duration: Use regularly for dental plaque control; consult dental professional for long-term use.
  • Pediatrics (<12 years): Use with caution; typically not recommended unless advised by a dentist.
  • Special Groups: No dose adjustment needed; avoid swallowing in all groups.
Mechanism of Action (MOA)

This combination provides multi-mechanistic oral care:

  • Eucalyptol, Menthol, Methyl Salicylate, and Thymol act as antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agents, disrupting bacterial cell membranes, inhibiting plaque-forming bacteria, and reducing oral inflammation.
  • Sodium Fluoride promotes remineralization of enamel and inhibits demineralization, strengthening teeth against acid attack and preventing dental caries.
Pharmacokinetics
  • Absorption: Minimal systemic absorption via oral mucosa when used as mouthwash; primarily topical effect.
  • Distribution: Localized in oral cavity tissues.
  • Metabolism: Menthol and methyl salicylate are metabolized hepatically if ingested; however, systemic exposure from mouthwash use is minimal.
  • Elimination: Metabolites excreted via urine.
  • Onset: Immediate topical antimicrobial and analgesic effects upon use.
Pregnancy Category & Lactation
  • Pregnancy: Generally considered safe when used as directed in mouthwash form; systemic exposure minimal. Use with caution; consult healthcare provider.
  • Lactation: Safe for breastfeeding mothers with topical use; avoid swallowing to minimize systemic exposure.
Therapeutic Class
  • Primary Class: Oral hygiene agents
  • Subclass: Antimicrobial mouthwash with fluoride anticaries agent
Contraindications

  • Children under 12 years unless advised by a healthcare professional.
  • History of salicylate sensitivity or aspirin allergy.
  • Open wounds or severe oral mucosal damage (consult healthcare provider before use).
Warnings & Precautions

  • May cause temporary burning or irritation of oral mucosa.
  • Use with caution in patients with salicylate sensitivity.
  • Keep out of reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion.
  • Discontinue use if allergic reactions or severe irritation occur.
  • Not a substitute for mechanical plaque removal (brushing/flossing).
